Recruiting - Requirements for Independent Contractors

Our company has compiled a list of requirements in an effort to help potential drivers answer any questions that they may have before applying for a position. We make a great effort to keep this list as updated and current as possible, but the range of possible questions is beyond the scope of this website. ◊ General Requirements for all Sub-Contractors ◊


  • Must have CDL or Chauffeur license (check with licensing state on state requirement)
  • Copy of DOT physical (long form) from Foremost Transport’s appointed Doctor
  • Must be able to pass drug screen
  • Must be at least 23 years of age with satisfactory work history
  • No DUI, DWI or OWI convictions in the past ten years
  • No more than two (2) moving violations in a three (3) year period
  • No more than two (2) accidents in the last three (3) years (regardless of fault)
  • Proper safety equipment - Gauged fire extinguisher, three DOT approved triangles, camera and safety chains
  • Small hand tools kept in vehicle

 

 

 

◊ Towable Division Required Equipment ◊

 

  • ¾ ton pickup truck or larger (Diesel preferred)
  • Truck must be 20 years old or less (preferably 10 years old or less), presentable and in good condition
  • 5th Wheel hitch highly recommended to allow you to pull all types of freight available. If present, must be rated for 15,000 pounds or greater. If not present, can be purchased at a later date
  • Heavy duty TT receiver hitch rated at least 10,000 lbs or better (class IV or V)
  • Ball mount rated for 10,000 lbs or better with leveler bars or weight distribution bars, 2 inch and 2 5/16 inch balls
  • Must have electric hook up for trailers (Bargman 7 prong and adaptors)
  • Extended mirrors (must see past width of trailer)
  • Marker lights on vehicle cab highly recommended
  • Mud flaps behind each rear tire to extend 4-6 inches from the ground. Full rear fenders
  • Brake control and battery for the trailer breakaway system
  • Six (6) foot safety chain with hooks on each end
  • 22K Gooseneck and pintle hitch are optional
  • Registration, DOT Annual Inspection, Long form of insurance (must have physical damage coverage and a minimum of $500,000 liability)
  • Window tint must not exceed the state laws in measuring (VLT) Visible Light Transmission percentage (must be able to see the driver through window)
  • Tool boxes and/or auxiliary fuel tanks must remain 4" or less above bed rails
  • No radar/laser detectors or jammers are allowed in commercial vehicles

 

 

 

◊ Flatbed Division Required Equipment ◊

 

  • 15 year or newer tractor (presentable and in good condition)
  • 12,000 lb or more capable winch
  • Fifth wheel plate rated for at least 40,000 lbs
  • Mud flaps behind each rear tire to extend 4-6 inches from the ground.
  • IRP Plates (see our company representative)
  • 48 ft. to 52 ft. Trailer (presentable and in good condition) with center rail and ramps
  • Straps, ratchets and wheel bonnets
  • Registration, DOT Annual Inspection, Long form of insurance (must have physical damage coverage and a minimum of $500,000 liability)
  • Truck must be plated for a minimum of 54,000 lbs. to 65,000 lbs.
  • Window tint must not exceed the state laws in measuring (VLT) Visible Light Transmission percentage (must be able to see the driver through window)
  • No radar/laser detectors or jammers are allowed in commercial vehicles
